Led by the Spirit, we walk on holy ground.   Open to new ways, we respond in hope and compassion,   trusting God will provide. We hold our world as sacred, witnessing our passion for Christ to all creation.                                                                                             - General Chapter, Rome, 2009

Peace and All Good! ¡Paz y Bien!

Saint Francis of Assisi, who responded to a call from God by a radical following of the Gospel, greeted those he met with a wish for peace and all good. We, Sisters and Associates, wish you the same and offer a bouquet of tulips, a flower that reminds us of our origins in the south of The Netherlands.

Magdalen Damen, our Foundress, carried the Franciscan spirit into the turbulent world of her day. She was born in 1787, the daughter of simple tenant farmers. Against all odds, nearly fifty years later, she and four companions began a small Franciscan congregation that has spread from Europe to Southeast Asia, South and North America and East Africa.

In North America, in our own times, we follow the Gospel, living as sisters minor in the midst of God's people, witnessing hope to a struggling world.

OUR CHARISM

Like Francis of Assisi and Magdalen Damen,
we trust God's goodness and providence,
living the Gospel in our time with gentle courtesy toward all creation.

OUR MISSION

We are women choosing to live the gospel of Jesus Christ as Sisters of St. Francis in the spirit of our foundress, Magdalen Damen.

Our diversity of gifts is a power we choose to use for and with others because we are sisters to all. Conscious of our personal, communal, and national experience of history, sin, and grace, we, as people of God, commit ourselves to human rights, ecological harmony, and global peace.

Wherever we live and serve, we contemplate the Word of God and call one another to conversion of heart in order to transform unjust structures and to hear the cry of the poor. Trusting in God and open to risk, we walk with courage.

Find Us While we live in a variety of places and situations, our three North American provinces have central offices in Stella Niagara, New York; Denver, Colorado; and Redwood City, California. Our Sisters in the Chiapas Mission are located in Palenque, in the southernmost state of Mexico.
